Making it happen for both Girls and Boys

When the A Girl A K A Year (H-Pads for Girls) Sanitary Towels Project was rooted in the 2011/12 Rotary Year, the focus was on underprivileged girl-child who could not afford hygienic sanitary towels hence missing out on education and other opportunities.

To date, 2981 girls across Kenya and recently Uganda have received a year’s supply of sanitary towels, undergarments and health education booklets. This has been made possible through support received in various ways by individuals, Rotary/Rotaract Clubs and other organizations.

Girls are mentored on careers, drugs and substance use and personal hygiene.

Boys have also not been left out as they are included during mentorship sessions. Some of the mixed schools and orphanages such as A.C.K Ukia Secondary School, Altawoon Education Center, Misori Primary School and Brydges Children Center have also benefited from textbooks mainly donated by Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.

As we mark International Women’s Day on 9th March, we appreciate the strides achieved this far to light the life of both girls and boys through the H-Pads for Girls and Booksdrive projects. We also celebrate all those involved to make the lives of children with special needs safer and more meaningful.

2014/15 Rotary year target is to reach 1200 needy girls although what has been realized can only support 468 girls. You can make it happen by making your contributions to the project through:
