SAYING GOODBYE TO REAGAN

Well, if anyone has the ability to make a powerful and lasting first impression, there is no doubt in my mind that it is Namanya Ronald Reagan, a charter member of the Rotaract Club of Kampala Ssese. The first time you encounter Reagan, you are left with his very powerful presence that is hard to ignore and forget. His hearty laughter, his charm, his confidence and his ability to turn a seemingly impossible situation a memorable one is what has kept Reagan a welcomed guest of Rotaract Clubs in Nairobi.

Yesterday, Reagan said goodbye to members of the Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central as he heads back home to Uganda and his home club, The Rotaract Club of Kampala Ssese, which he ensured that twining efforts between the two clubs was fruitful before he left the country. Reagan has been in the country pursuing his Masters degree in Economics which he successfully completed a few weeks ago. I remember one day our Club Service Director, Lucy Wanjau, who is also pursuing a bachelors in Economics at the University of Nairobi updating her facebook status – interesting is when you get into an exam room and you find that Namanya Ronald Reagan is the invigilator! It must have been easier for her or anyone to remember the answers to the questions. The very presence of Reagan makes one realize that life is never that serious, the tension melts away and you are able to deal with the situation at hand in a very calm manner. Yes, he had that effect.

And in Reagan, The Rotaract Club of Kampala Ssese should be proud that they had a loyal Ambassador who ensured that he attended all Rotaract Club’s meetings in Nairobi and actively participated in their events representing not only The Rotaract Club of Kampala Ssese but Uganda the country as well. He made sure that he always attended weekday meetings of different clubs within the Nairobi Central Business District. If records can speak for themselves, I highly suspect Reagan has attended more Rotaract meetings in the two years he has been in the country more than any other Rotaractor from here. Yes, and the Rotaract Club of Kampala Ssese must thank him for the efforts he made in ensuring that the Twining with The Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central was realized.

Reagan has the natural ability to effortlessly turn a tense and perhaps boring meeting to some into a light moment with his hearty laughter and easiness with which makes everyone at ease. And yes, he has his own theories which have been inspired by his love for the fairer sex! Yes, he is one of the people that can turn an economics discussion into an otherwise!

We are glad to have had Reagan with Rotaract in Nairobi for the time he has been here and we sure have learnt a lot from him. The Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central will definitely miss him but we shall keep in touch with him thanks to social networking and our twining. Whenever we are in Kampala, we shall be sure to get in touch with Reagan for a hearty laugh. We wish him the very best as he travels back home and settles into something else.

THANK YOU REAGAN FOR LIVING THE ROTARACT SPIRIT BUILDING GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS.
