THE HEART OF THE MATTER: Members' Retreat setting the pace for the next quarter

There’s a reason why RCNC is the best club – we get to the heart of what matters. And that was our intention at the 1stquarter members retreat held on 30th September at Rolf’s Place. Fellowship and reflection was the agenda for the day.

We were ferried to Rongai courtesy of a fellow Rotaractor –Kephah Kimutu who runs his own matatu. It’s almost as if Rolf reserved the venue for us because even though we were concerned that our late arrival might cause us to miss our slot, there were no other groups during the day. They were even gracious enough to keep our snacks for us in spite of their no food allowed policy.

Once we were in teams and the rules of the game were explained, we wasted no time in venting the frustrations of the week running across the field and shooting anything in sight! Team A-tee-wo-lee took the day thanks to their Spartan-like guerilla and fearless tactics; bringing team nipple destroyers to their knees.

The excitement did not end there as we all took part in the challenge course – and will be regrettably sore for the rest of the week. The day culminated in an intimate session where members had a chance to not only give feedback on the progress of the club but more importantly make a commitment for the coming quarter as follows:

  •  Valary Okwenda our treasurer has pledged to collect all club debts and pledges
  • Lucy Wanjau our vice president will offer her help to anyone – all they have to do is ask
  • Sylvia Mutua will follow up on proposals sent to Ericsson even as she embarks on a sabbatical
  • Josephine will be inducted at the next meeting and join a committee
  • Eve Jaudi our community service director will follow up on proposals sent to corporates and support the calendar project
  • Fred Ouko as a board advisor will facilitate collaboration with NGOs
  • Paul Maingi will pay his dues and join a committee
  • Dickson Njuguna will join and participate in the community and club service committees
  • Denis Munene the club service director will get to know members better as well as get them to know each other. He will also dedicate time to increasing our online presence
  • Norman Kuria our president elect will form a “shadow cabinet” in preparation for the coming year and work on creating a club website
  • Wangari Mwaniki in PR & fundraising will follow up on outstanding fundraising issues and get to know members better
  • Irinah Wanera our president will dedicate her efforts to the calendar and AGAKAY projects

Now that’s what I call SERVICE ABOVE SELF. After all, they profit most, who serve best!
